The US Navy’s newest warship, USS Zumwalt DDG 1000 is the largest destroyer and most technologically advanced surface combatant in the world, with a brand-new, state-of-the-art electric propulsion system, wave-piercing tumblehome hull, small crew, stealth design, and the latest war fighting technology and weaponry available. At a total of cost of more than $4 billion, the DDG 1000 is also the most expensive destroyer ever built for the U.S. Navy. [gallery type="square" link="file" ids="15715,15716,15714"] USS Zumwalt will be a multi-mission combatant [(Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Anti Surface Warfare (ASUW)] unlike any warship that has ever sailed the seas. DDG 1000 will triple naval surface coverage as well as tripling capability against anti-ship cruise missiles. The design allows for optimal manning (smaller, more efficient crew). The composite superstructure significantly reduces cross section and acoustic output making the ship harder to detect. Each ship also features a battery of two Advanced Gun Systems (AGS) firing Long-Range Land Attack Projectiles (LRLAP) that reach up to 63 nautical miles.
