A recent Facebook post showing a pile of spicy red steamed Chesapeake Bay blue crabs gave me the blues. Anyone who knows me (and suffers the endless line of crab feast photos I post on Facebook every summer) will tell you that I am an incurable crab lover, and it's about this time every year when I start to go through withdrawal.
So I decided to log onto YouTube and see what crab-related videos I could find. Along with the videos of lightning-fast professional crab pickers, I found this video where a crabber attached a GoPro camera to a collapsible trap. It's a fascinating look at how a crab feeds. I was personally surprised at how durable the crab's mouth parts were. I previously thought the claws did most of the work.
Crab season opens April 1 in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay.
