It's the bird seen on so many of our license plates. A symbol of the commitment to preserving and protecting the Chesapeake Bay, the solitary heron has come to be a figurehead for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and those of us who care about our environment. But there's just one question: what's the bird's name?

In an effort to bring greater recognition to the heron and his work, CBF is running a Name Our Bird contest. Narrowed down to three finalists, they're asking for your help in deciding the winner. The current shortlist is as follows:

Wade
"It's simple and descriptive, as herons wade in the water to fish." - Megan Flickinger, Frederick, Md. Hattie the Heron
“Hattie was my 4 Greats back Grandmother's name. I looked at your picture of the Heron and Hattie just popped into my head. She was a strong woman and so is our beautiful bird. It just seemed to fit to me.” - Janet Dimalanta, Jessup, Md. Seemore D. Bay
“A reminder to all to 'see more of the bay' and protect our treasure each day!” - Lesley Ann Smith, Chester, Md.
