On Veterans Day, November 11, all applicable day-use entrance charges are waived for all veterans in Maryland State Parks. The waiver applies to both resident and out-of-state veterans. Any member of the Maryland National Guard and all active duty military personnel who display their active duty military identification card to the gate attendant at any Maryland State Park day-use area will have their day-use entrance service charge waived (this is true for any day, not just Veterans Day).
Make sure to take a moment today to thank a veteran for their service. Happy Veterans Day!
Want to get involved? There are many excellent programs around the Bay and lots of ways to help. Programs need volunteer captains and boats, people to serve and set up meals, and sponsors to donate financially or in-kind, including items such as fishing gear. Many programs also engage military family members, because they experience a lot of stress too.
A few of the many programs on the Bay are: Project Healing Waters (projecthealingwaters.org) to rehabilitate vets through fly-fishing. Warrior Events (warriorevents.net) which organizes social events including fishing tournaments and sailing. Rock On Warriors (mssaannapolis.com) founded by members of the Annapolis Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association (MSSA), to show appreciation to wounded, injured, and ill service veterans. Heroes On The Water (heroesonthewater.org) helping warriors relax, rehabilitate, and reintegrate through kayak fishing and being outdoors.
Finally, Take A Warrior Fishing (castforkids.org) supports military personnel and their families by creating adaptive, community-based outdoor recreation experiences through the sport of fishing.
