Finally! Some beautiful weather!

Suffice it to say, one of the best things to do this time of year is to head into DC to check out the
cherry blossoms. We leave the car at New Carrolton and take the train in, bringing our sandwiches with us. The tidal pool is a great meeting spot, and makes meeting up with your friends feel a little more like a Cary Grant movie. If you're not tied to your desk during the week, it's even better to do this Monday through Thursday when the crowds are a little less explosive. It's still a crazy time to be in DC, but come on...it's worth it.
TheDCTraveler.com has a great schedule of events posted.
In Western Maryland, Fort Frederick to be exact, you can see a
reenactment of the French and Indian War by members of the Royal American Regiment and Maryland Rangers. This is great for kids who will find the musket firing demonstrations, open hearth cooking, and military drills ( for kids!) exciting. Bring the bikes, strollers, and inline skates to check out the Maryland Rail Trail while you're there.
The Annapolis Elks Lodge in Edgewater is hosting two great clinics this weekend:
Voyage Planning and Electronic Charting and Practical Marine Radar. Both classes are put on by the
Chesapeake Area Professional Captains Association, and are appropriate for professional captains and recreational boaters alike. The cost of the course also covers a text book, student guide, breakfast and lunch. Discounted rates for CAPCA members in good standing.

In the not-so-sexy category of things to do this weekend, you can
drop off your household hazardous waste at the Millersville Landfill in Severn on Saturday. I realize this isn't the kind of thing we want to take time out of a beautiful weekend to do, but if you're a boater, chances are you have some powerful chemicals hanging around your house or yard.
See this list for the items they're accepting at the landfill.
And finally, in Annapolis the
Key School is having their 11th Annual Book Sale. There's plenty of entertainment for the kids, and books and author signings for adults. We recommend getting a coffee and a donut and then getting to the Key School early before the crowds hit. The sale starts at 10 and over 3,000 people are expected.
