The annual Fish for a Cure charity fishing tournament was held November 4 out of Annapolis, MD. The tournament has been around since 2007, and since 2010 has donated more than one million dollars to cancer survivorship programs at the GEaton and JoAnn Decesaris Cancer Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Captain's Challenge

Boats aim to win the Captain's Challenge, which is bestowed upon the boat that raises the most money. This year, 79 boats entered the tournament, and collectively raised more than $400,000! That is truly something to be celebrated. For the Captain's Challenge, first placed was nabbed in the final hours by Captain Rob Schurr and the Just in Time team with $39,375 raised. Captain Brian Heller and team Alternating Currents were in a close second  with $39,215 raised. Team Just in Time took first place in the Captain's Challenge after raising $39,375. Newcomer captain Gary Oster and the team of Reel Women on Albert C took sixth place with $16,900 raised. Reel Women teammate Vicky Brunt graces the November cover of FishTalk. Way to go to all of the teams that raised money for such a good cause!

Team FishTalk PropTalk

Team FishTalk PropTalk, comprised of Captain and FishTalk Angler in Chief, Lenny Rudow; his son Max Rudow; Production Manager, Zach Ditmars; and Senior Editor, Kaylie Jasinski raised $3760, placing 25th in the Captain's Challenge. We would like to thank all of our family, friends, and readers who made donations. In the fishing tournament we caught several undersized rockfish (which were quickly released) and four keeper rockfish, three of which were entered in the Catch and Release division. Our keeper rockfish measured in at 28.5 inches and was meant to be entered in the Grand SLAM category (heaviest of three species) along with a channel catfish and a white perch, but due to a snafu, we were unable to enter our cooler. But don't worry, you can bet we'll be out there again next time. And we're coming for that SLAM! We had a great time on the water and would just like to thank all of our sponsors once again.
