The Maryland Department of Natural Resources currently has a paddling safety quiz and contest on their website that will be opened on May 27th and will go until 12 PM (EST) on October 16th. Completing the quiz will enter you into a contest to win a standup paddle board.
The quiz itself is very easy, even someone as new to paddle sports as myself was able to answer all but two questions correctly. Most of the questions can be answered with simple common sense, and those that require knowledge of paddling rules and regulations will still be easy for anyone with any experience with canoes, kayaks, or paddle boards.
Everyone out on the water should make sure they can pass this quiz with flying colors. Questions test knowledge in areas such as night safety, life jacket safety, avoiding collisions and capsizing, and littering. A free paddle board seems like an excellent incentive to check and make sure your paddle sports safety acumen is up to snuff.
