It seems like it's been in the water off Italy's island of Giglio forever, and that's about right. After 20 months, the boat is finally being raised from its resting place. In the meantime, Reuters reports that two bodies were found, one of an Indian man and another an Italian woman.
The New York Times has a fascinating video of the process of righting the ship (as does the BBC, below). It took 19 hours to "lean it (the ship) on an underwater platform built underneath," and right it to a standing position. As of now, the process has not been said to cause any direct damage to the already compromised environment, which is incredible considering the fact that the ship didn't break apart during the night. The process is called "
parbuckling," and below you can watch a time-lapsed video of the effort.
