Looking out at the water this morning, I saw an interesting shape on the old duck-blind-turned-nest platform near the mouth of the South River. Binoculars confirmed the bright white head and tail of our national bird. I have been looking at this particular part of the Bay for most of my life, and this is the first time I have ever seen a bald eagle here. Barely one cup of coffee later, I saw another interesting figure on the platform, This time it was the proprietor, the local osprey, my first sighting of 2013. Soon the familiar "cheep-cheep" was heard as the bird took to the air, searching the shoreline, perhaps for lunch or some driftwood to start spring remodeling.

Spring is coming; a little bird told me so.
