Winter Storm Grayson, also known as the "
bomb cyclone", that moved up the East Coast yesterday brought damaging winds and snow to parts of Maryland. In the Upper Bay, those winds and the recent full moon (causes higher than normal high tides and lower than normal low tides) pushed much of the water out of the rivers causing Baltimore to see its lowest recorded tide since November 21, 1989, according to the National Weather Service.

At 1:12 p.m. January 4, the water level in the Patapsco River was recorded at 3.58 feet below the average low tide. And while the Upper Bay is seeing record low tides, Boston has been slammed with record-breaking flooding.

Around Bowleys Quarters we talked to several marina owners who believed it to be the lowest tide they had seen in some time. For boats still in the "water," most were observed sitting on the icy bottom with ice eaters whirring away on the sand. These shots were taken at
Edward's Boat Yard on Frog Mortar Creek in Middle River, MD.

The wind is expected to continue for the next few days. Make sure to take the necessary precautions to make sure your boat is prepared.
