Here at PropTalk we are all celebrating the fact that summer has arrived, and it seems to have finally convinced the sun to stay! Besides breaking out the sunscreen and sunglasses, we’ve found lots to do this weekend, and we want to help you to get out and celebrate the season with us! Memorial Day celebrations may have passed, but that certainly doesn’t mean the fun has.
"Swing!": If there’s any type of music that makes us want to jump on our feet and move its swing music. This Friday at 8:30 p.m, the production “Swing!” will be showcasing at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre. Featuring songs such as “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” and “I’ll Be Seeing You,” this is sure to be an energetic start to the weekend.

Clean The Bay Day: Anyone who has ever seen the Chesapeake is impressed by its beautiful scenery, but those of us who interact with it know that protecting the Bay can be hard but important work. If you want a fun way to help in the efforts to preserve our beautiful landscape, Saturday, June 1 is Virginia’s “Clean the Bay Day.” Volunteers are needed at several more sites, so check the website and see where you can help! Not only could you catch a few rays and meet some fellow Bay lovers, but your service to the community will make a huge difference.

Youth Fishing Derby: For all of you avid fishermen with kids near Kent County, there is a Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This event will teach children the basics and techniques of fishing, and at the end of the day, there will be prizes given to biggest fish of the day, biggest fish of the species, and more! Although the free “rod and reel” spots may already be filled, if you have your own gear and want to head out to socialize with others interested in fishing, pre-register while there is still room by calling 410-778-1948. The cost per child is $9.

Strawberry Celebration: With this bright and sunny weather it is only right that we indulge in some colorful food! I don’t know about you, but growing up, strawberries have always marked the beginning of the summer months. On Saturday, St. Luke’s Church in St. Michael’s is hosting the Annual Strawberry Festival and Craft Show to celebrate this awesome season. Strawberries are to be collected, eaten and brought home, and can double as a tasty snack with perusing the 50 + craft vendors. Said to be well attended, the event starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. With the promise of food, fun AND crafts, I’m not sure I can stay away!

Walk the Plank: I don’t know if there’s anything as fun as pretending you’re a pirate, (no, you’re never too old to think that) and Hampton, Virginia seems to have caught on. This weekend, Friday through Saturday, is the Blackbeard Festival, which features Pirate shows, re-enactments, live music, fireworks, (and our favorite) private sailboats and powerboats in their own pirate attire. You’re never too old to enjoy a good pirate festival, am I right Cap’n?
