This year’s Silverton Owners Club 2016 Rendezvous took place at Mears Great Oak Landing Marina on Fairlee Creek. Over the weekend of August 5-7, 42 Silverton owners and their families brought 19 boats through the always interesting and sometimes challenging inlet of Fairlee Creek. Along with past rendezvous attendees, we had newcomers as well, with boats traveling north from Solomons and south from West Deptford, NJ. Our meet and greet as members arrived turned into a wonderful cocktail hour with incredible appetizers provided by all. The party continued afterward as everyone returned to the dock and met at various boats to enjoy the rest of the evening. Saturday afternoon always means boat tours, which is a great way to see the various Silverton models and to discuss issues we have had on our boats, as well as to see décor and improvements made by owners. Our special guests were Mike and Ami Carter. Mike is a cabinet maker and carpenter who was involved in the building of many of the boats he visited. Mike continues his involvement with members of the club doing new cabinetry and woodwork work or repairs. One can’t go to Fairlee Creek and not stop by Jelly Fish Joels. Many went there by golf cart or by bike enjoying the afternoon at the Tiki Bar for drinks sandwiches, corn hole, and the scenery. The beach was the perfect place to relax and watch boats come through the inlet while others relaxed by the pool at the marina or fished with their kids. Before long it was time for the pot luck dinner which always means great food, good drinks, and a great time by all. It seems that there is a tradition for this event as for the fifth year in a row, a thunderstorm rolled in as dinner was underway. Fortunately, the tent was large enough to allow the festivities to continue. Thanks go to Jester Promotions for contributing Silverton apparel and Gioia Sails for contributing gift certificates for our members. Following dinner, the rounds were made to boats, visiting, playing games, or sharing boat stories. Sunday was our final day that began with a potluck breakfast that included mimosas, homemade waffles, many breakfast casseroles, and all the bacon and sausage to go with them. If anyone was still hungry, there was plenty of fruit, bagels, and pastry to go around as well. As the SOC members began their departures to home ports around the Bay, plans for the 2017 rendezvous began to simmer as members start to look forward to another great event. Thanks go to Donnie Quinn and his crew at Great Oak Landing Marina for all their help to make the Silverton Owners Club 2016 Rendezvous a success.
