Attention cruisers. It's that time of year again, time to start thinking about southbound winter cruises and trips down the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). We know you're already itching to cast off the bow lines so maybe you shouldn't watch this awesome video featuring drone footage over Florida and the ICW... Or maybe you should. Just make sure to read our disclaimer first.

Disclaimer: This video will make you want to throw caution to the wind. It will make you want to walk out of the office, get on your boat, and head south immediately. But there is still some very important prep work you will want to attend to, so after you watch the video, make sure to read some of our recent articles on the ICW. That way you will be both excited and prepared.

  1. Preparing for the ICW by Tom Hale Tom Hale reviews a list of necessary checks all cruisers should go over before departing on the ICW, from spare parts, to proper anchors, as well as the importance of lengthy practice cruises to determine if your boat is in fact ship-shape.

How much time do you have for the trip? What's your budget? Where will you stay once you get there? The Hamilton's have made this trip many times (13!) over the years so make sure to listen to their advice; you'll be in good hands.
  3. Cruising South on the Intracoastal Waterway by Katie and Gene Hamilton If you’re considering doing the “Ditch," here’s some great advice on planning, scheduling, boat handling, and budgeting for an ICW adventure.
