With the temperature cooling down (sometimes quite dramatically), anglers can start dreaming and preparing for fall fishing tourneys. There are three tournaments coming up in November and one Fishing Derby for children. Most require advanced registration and preparation so get your crew and start planning now! Fish for a Cure, November 7: All proceeds support the Cancer Survivorship Programs within the Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Captain's meeting November 4 at 6 p.m. at Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Weigh-in at 4 p.m., after the tournament, on Pusser's dock in downtown Annapolis. The shore party will be at 6 p.m. at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel (old Marriott). Prize categories are for Heaviest Rockfish, Heaviest String of Perch, and Grand Slam. Easton Waterfowl Festival, November 12-15: Among many other fun activities that weekend, there will be a Kids' Fishing Derby on Saturday November 14 at 10 a.m., and on Sunday at 3 p.m. MD DNR will be stocking trout in the ponds, and the midshore chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) will be providing fishing rods, bait, and instruction for kids. Rocksgiving, November 14: PropTalk is a sponsor of this striped bass tournament, which benefits Bowen Foundation for Autism and Hospice of the Chesapeake. Lines in the water by 7 a.m., with photos or fish presented for judging no later than 4 p.m. at Chesapeake Harbour Marina in Annapolis. The entry fee is $300. First place prize is $5000, second place $3000, and third place $2000. There will also be a post-tournament celebration that includes beer, rum, food, and live music. Tickets for the party are $35. MSSA Chesapeake Bay Fall Classic, November 21-22: This is the Bay's largest fall striped bass tournament. If entrants are MSSA members, the entry fee will be $225 through October, and $250 in November. Non-member rates are $250 and $275 respectively. Apart from the main tournament prizes, there will also be Tournaments Within Tournaments (TWT's) that can be entered separately (check online for prices for each TWT). Participants must attend a captain's meeting before the event. Locations include: November 16 at Island Tackle Outfitters on Kent Island, November 17 at Commodore Hall in Essex, November 18 at All Tackle in Annapolis, and November 19 at the Solomons Pier Restaurant in Solomons Island.
