We're huge fans of Patrick Evans-Hylton, one of Hampton Roads' resident foodies. The executive editor for Virginia Wine Lover Magazine, we've followed his cooking segments and recipes for years (check out his crab cakes with popcorn recipe below). Now, he's putting out his first cookbook entitled Dishing Up Virginia, which pulls together over 145 timeless classics and the stories behind them. There are recipes for  Crab Norfolk, Virginia Sea Scallops with Shallots and Walnuts, Oysters Bingo, Chili-Rubbed Pork Loin Roast with Wine Country Salsa, Indian Butter Chicken, Cherry Shrub Cocktail, Black Cake, Scuppernong Granita, Peanut Butter Silk Pie, Monticello Apple Cake, Bourbon Slush, and so many more. If you love keeping your kitchen full of the oysters, blue crabs, heirloom tomatoes and peanuts that make Virginia cuisine special, then the cookbook certainly belongs on your shelf. And should we mention...Mother's Day is right around the corner? To celebrate the cookbook's release, the Mariner's Museum in Newport News is putting on a food tasting and book launch party. For only $25 per person, you receive a tasting of menu from some of Hampton Roads' top restaurants and caterers as well as a chance to meet and chat with Patrick himself.
