Next weekend, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will be holding its 32nd annual Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival. But unlike previous years, this festival will also be extended among the boutiques, galleries, and restaurants of the quaint town of St. Michaels. This way, festival-goers can experience the art of small craft in a number of ways, whether it is dining on some of the seafood-themed dishes at local restaurants, sampling locally made small batch rum, or simply strolling along the waterfront streets. At the museum, sailing skiffs, rowing shells, kayaks, canoes, paddle-boats, prams and other one-of-a-kind boats will be in the water and on land where visitors can chat with boat owners about their experiences on the water. Beginning noon on Saturday October 4th, the Royal Oak Musicians will perform live at the museum's beach-front bandstand. Following the performance there will be a small craft race, scenic Miles River cruises aboard CBMM's 1920's buyboat Winnie Estelle, wooden boat building workshops and even maritime demonstrations. With two full days of festival events, there will be something for everyone. Admission is only $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $6 for children 6-17. (Under age 6 and museum members are free!) So start the Fall season off right and head on down to St. Michaels, for this is an event you surely will not want to miss.
