Soak it in... Photo by Gary Reich One thing you'll see in the upcoming September issue of PropTalk Magazine is a great "Crabbing 101" article that spells out just what you need to do to catch your own crabs. In advance of that article, last night I secured use of one of Chesapeake Boating Club's powerboats (the Twin Vee 19 is a great crabbing platform) to get some photos and videos to accent the article. I invited my great neighbors from across the street, who brought along a few brews and some cool gazpacho, and we headed off to Whitehall Bay with 10 baited traps. Only a few, but it doesn't matter. Photo by Gary Reich The crabbing, quite honestly, stunk. We only managed to catch five crabs in a few hours (we placed blame squarely on one crew member who lost a keeper out of the side of a trap), but the low-humidity weather made it all worth going out. We joked, poked fun at each other, belly-ached about how work gets in the way of life, and, most importantly, soaked up the beautiful Chesapeake Bay scenery. It struck me that sometimes catching a mess of crabs or fish is nice, but also that sometimes the day is so unique that it really doesn't matter. We powered back to Annapolis as the sun set over the Greenbury Point radio towers and the content look on all of our faces proved that sometimes blowing off work--or yard work, homework, or housework... is completely worth it.
