The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) reports that Joseph B. Ireland, 28 of Glen Burnie, is being charged with attempted murder after striking swimmers with his jet ski on the Magothy River on the night of Sunday, July 1.

The Baltimore Sun reports that: "Ireland had been arguing with other men on Dobbins Island at about 8 p.m. Sunday when the confrontation turned physical and punches were thrown." Ireland then got onto his personal watercraft and drove off before turning around and charging at the two men, who were struck and treated with minor injuries. When confronted by police, Ireland resisted arrest, threatened to fight police officers, berated officers, and registered a blood alcohol level of 0.22 percent more than two hours after the incident, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Witnesses are asked to contact Maryland DNR police investigators at (443) 699-5297.
