On July 4, Dennis Jay and Peter Lamb were boating with friends on Swan Creek near Rock Hall, MD, when they spotted a raccoon in distress. The young animal was fighting to stay afloat in the water. The group wanted to help the raccoon but worried that it might have rabies, so instead they threw it a life preserver on a rope. The raccoon grabbed on and one of the friends was able to tow him safely to shore from a dinghy. Now, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is awarding Dennis Jay and Peter Lamb Compassion Action Awards for helping the raccoon. "PETA hopes their kindness will inspire others to take action to help animals in need," said PETA Vice President Colleen O'Brien. https://youtu.be/i0Dsh96Jt_o
